How our journey began
What is a supply chain? Who we are and why we are here? How to make sense for the supplier and the buyer through this chain to become help them be the best in their niche throughout the globe?
As Jiddu Krishnamurti writes in The Flight of the Eagle: “To ask the 'right' question is far more important than to receive the answer. The solution of a problem lies in the understanding of the problem; the answer is not outside the problem, it is in the problem.”
Our path began back in the sixties when on June 29, 1956, President Eisenhower signed legislation funding the construction of the U.S. Interstate Highway System and launched the magnificent project to create the roads to unite all 48 states. All our grandparents were at the origins of modern American logistics and carefully passed on knowledge from generation to generation on how to build a real and honest business in relation to drivers, warehouse employees, and to their entire team!
The second major disruptive point in our industry was put intact with the Motor Carrier Act of 1980, which gave our parents the freedom to have limitless opportunities for the growth and exploration of our American logistics. Since the passage of the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887, the US federal government had regulated various transportation modes, starting with the railroad industry, and later the trucking and airline industries. Increasing public interest in deregulation led to a series of federal laws beginning in 1976 with the Railroad Revitalization and Regulatory Reform Act. Major deregulation of the trucking industry began with the Motor Carrier Act of 1980, which was signed into law by President Carter on July 1, 1980.
And yet what was this formula for success and how our grandparents, and parents managed to achieve the best service and gain their own honest name in the transportation industry?
The drivers were their priority!
